I started working on a Phalaenopsis Orchid clip/comb (I couldn't decide which). Here's a picture of how far I got.
It took quite a few tries to get all the petals the size and shape that I wanted them.
But then I got a request to make a small custom Cattleya Orchid arrangement! That takes priority, of course. I am very excited!
I have a deadline coming up fast, so I'm going to be pushing myself to finish. Last night I stayed up pretty late finishing the main petals for the orchid. They are huge, and the biggest petals needed to be ruffled, which was tedious work. They will have a little more shape to them once I'm completely done.
Still to make is the gigantic central lip, which will have more ruffles than the bigger petals. I'm thinking three rows? That might make it too heavy and thick/clunky looking, so I might end up going with two rows, or make the third inner row with really small ruffles. :S This orchid will be about 7 inches wide once I'm done, which makes it the largest flower I have made to date.
I also need some large orchid leaves and some long skinny fern leaves.
Naturally, this means my roses are put on hold until after the 9th next week. (That's my deadline.) I have so many ideas. I wasn't going to be making many accessories, but then I had a few more ideas and I do want to make them all. Last month I was a little disappointed that I didn't get all my orchids done, and I kind of wanted to continue doing orchids. But I was also really wanting to do roses. They've been enticing me for months. So my orchid ideas will wait for some spare time between flowers, or if I need a break. And I might end up doing Roses for two months. :)
As a little side note, in my Etsy shop I got four sales in two days, which is kind of a record for me. Haha. It was rather exciting. I have an app on my phone that makes a "cha-ching!" sound when someone purchases something from my shop. Last month was so slow that I could hardly believe my little ears when it went off twice one day, and then twice again yesterday.
Anyways, my week will be crazy. Even more so because my husband has quite a few super late nights this week at work. :S
