Wow! It's been over a week since I updated here. I've been in an accessory mood lately, and following along with my Orchid Challenge for May, I've made a few more Orchid hair pieces.
First up is a hair comb made in red and gold, modeled after the Phalaenopsis Orchid. I embellished it with Swarovski Pearls.
I thought about making a headband, and I might still. But I really wanted to get started working on the potted Cymbidium I've been planning. Here is what I have for that so far. Still to make are the orchid throats, some buds, and a couple more leaves.
Yesterday I took a break from that project to make a Cymbidium hair clip. I was able to finish it earlier today! I'm very happy with how it turned out. This one is a large-sized flower, almost 4 inches wide!
I'm hoping to do another hair comb with two smaller cymbidiums. :) I was going to make a potted Phalaenopsis (Moth) Orchid as well, but I'm really enjoying making accessories. Oh, and I want to make a larger single Phalaenopsis hair clip as well. Maybe two, one in white, and one in black! AHHH! Too many ideas! I'm running out of time! And I still need to make a full tutorial for Daisies. :S It's going to be close this month!
Next month I'm doing Roses, by the way. :)
I think I've mentioned this before, but I've been going back and forth, deciding whether or not keeping my Zibbet shop will be worth my time. I do love the idea of Zibbet, and there are some very friendly people there. But I set up my shop last October and have had very few sales. There is little internal traffic, which means that I have to pull in my own customers with a very large amount of promotion. I'm a mommy. Both my kids are at home with me all day and they are completely crazy little boys. My time for promotion is not guaranteed and I've been struggling lately with finding enough time to do everything and still have success. That, along with some of the changes coming in their long-awaited rebuild, I may not be able to keep my shop there. If I do keep it, I will likely remove all my handmade items and just use it to sell patterns and tutorials. (I'm hoping to have my first ones available this summer). We'll see. Zibbet may just not be a good fit for me. :( But I am taking a break for a little while so I can work it all out. My time is spread so thin, and watching my shop fail despite all my hard work is just depressing.
